How to get Access to Undulator Beamlines for a Quick Project

Quick
Project
Goals
The recently instituted Quick Project program is a simple mechanism to let crystallographers working at PXRR bending magnet beamlines transfer worthy projects within a day to the X29 MGU facility with the goal of letting them take best advantage of the combined experimental capabilities within the PXRR. Quick Project time is part of discretionary beam time
at X29 and is scheduled along with development and maintenance activities for a few hours in the morning of each working day.

Worthy
Projects ...
  1. Require the small and brilliant undulator-derived beam at X29 or its large ADSC 315 area detector for crystallographic reasons such as small crystal size (<50 µm), high radiation sensitivity, or large unit cell dimension (>300 Å).
  2. Utilize a pre-screened crystal that promises to yield a high-quality data set.
  3. Require just an hour or two of X29 beamtime.

How to
get time
Use the flowchart at right.  Whenever possible get in contact early on with Howard Robinson, the beamline scientist at X29 to pre-arrange quick access. Check the X29 schedule for open time slots. Complete a Quick Project request in the PXdb. Contact a PX-operator and request to get BLOSA trained ahead of X29 work.
