Request Rapid Access to PXRR Beamlines

Goals
and
Scope
The PXRR Rapid Access program provides crystallographers with beamtime on short notice to support ongoing work in home laboratories at its natural pace. Requests for single visits to any of the PXRR facilities can usually be scheduled with a week or two. The program covers all of the PXRR facilities, including its two undulator beamlines at X25 and X29. Beamtime on a bending magnet and undulator facility during a single visit can also be requested, but may take more scheduling leadtime. Anand Saxena manages the scheduling of all Rapid Access time.
How to
get time
  1. Whenever possible get in contact early on with Anand Saxena, the PXRR Rapid Access manager, and learn about available beamtime and facilities.
  2. Complete a Rapid Access Request on the PXdb.
  3. Visit the Access to the NSLS webpage and complete, update, or confirm that you meet NSLS requirements as follows:
You have a valid user registration. If not, please register yourself and all members of your group. Note: Much lead time is needed to provide foreign nationals access to BNL.
  4. Your NSLS safety training is current. You may take advantage of the NSLS online courses.
  5. You have completed a new Safety Approval Form for your experiment. Note: SAFs for standard PX-work with non-toxic and non-infectoious crystals can now be completed rapidly using an umbrella PX SAF.
  6. Register online for BNL Gate Access.
  7. PXRR staff keeps you informed about scheduled visits. However, it does not hurt to confirm your arrangements before you travel.
