Provide methods and hardware for the electronic and computerized integrated control
of the PXRR beam lines. Develop and deploy EPICS-based systems for motion and process control.
Develop EPICS record set and control interface to coordinate undulator motion with monocromator changes. Devlop novel sensor methods for automated sample handler Design and build amplifier and interface modules for the planned X25 monochromator uprades. This modular system will provide EPICS control for the many DC servo motors, encoders, and limit signals of the LR-design double crystal mono. Prepare to deploy a pressure and temperature monitoring and interlocking system for the helium closed-cycle monochromator refrigeration unit currently in use at X29 and on order for X25. Develop an EPICS driver and record set for the Parker Compumotor 6K series motion controller. |
| Past Activities: |
Devloped and deployed a new EIA485
based system for monitoring
Vacuume pressure and pump function.
Deployed Linux based EPICS-IOC's with a number of small custom interface modules to bring existing devices like the sample coolers and fill level controllers under control at the beam lines. Brought the X29 MGU device under reliable an repeatable control using a Linux-IOC. Rapidly deployed an interface system to drive the DC servo motors on X29 to complete conditioning and alignment of the MGU and the beamline during commissioning. Implemented a PXRR-wide upgrade of the EPICS installations by replacing an old VX-Works with the current RTEMS operating system on all beamline VME crates. This allowed for upgrades of outdated driver software and the introduction of new I/O hardware. Designed a drive system to put the Smoovy motors of an existing motorized goniometer heads under EPICS control. This made possible the use in click-to-center methods in the automounter control software and it opens the way to developing crystal auto-centering systems. |
